Partners in Love

Happy Valentine’s Day.

I hope you remembered to give your partner a hug or a gift or whatever. Just as long as you took the opportunity to celebrate each other.

What is the origin of Valentine’s Day?

I’ve always assumed it was a Hallmark thing – a day invented to sell greeting cards and flowers. And, no, I didn’t bother to research it. It’s not that important to me. Forget I asked.

I do think it’s cute to have a day dedicated to loving your partner. I kind of wish we didn’t need to have a designated day to be nice. Why not just try to be nice every day? Why not make every day special?

If you can’t make every day special, maybe just tolerable?

Maybe, today is the day that everything gets better. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Today is a new day. Today is <insert some other hopeful, repeatable quote here>.

Okay, okay. A little too much optimism. I get it, it’s not my style. But I meant it. This day probably evokes a lot of feelings, depending on what your partnership looks like, because of the world we live in.

I just wanted to say that it’s okay.

Your partnership doesn’t have to look like mine. I still wish you all the best and a Happy Valentine’s Day. Because, all that matters is that you love your partner. Whatever kind of partnership you are in, no matter your issues, be kind and love one another.

And, don’t forget to make some time to love yourself too.
